Maryam Navaie, Dr.P.H.

Dr. Navaie is a professional with over 25 years of experience working in the health care industry. Her notable past employment settings include the New York State Department of Health and the Suffolk County Department of Health Services on Long Island, New York; academic medical centers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, University of California Los Angeles, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; community-based health service organizations including the Visiting Nurse Service of New York in New York, New York and Scripps Memorial Hospitals in La Jolla, California; and the pharmaceutical industry at Pfizer Inc. In addition, Dr. Navaie has held academic appointments at Columbia University in New York, New York and Hofstra University on Long Island, New York.

Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Navaie has served as an expert consultant for numerous health care sectors including: (a) pharmaceutical and medical device companies such as Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp.; Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; Johnson & Johnson; Sunovion Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; Medipacs, Inc; GE Healthcare; Roche Pharmaceuticals; Abbott Labs; Biogen Idec; Quidel Corp.; Innovative Neurotronics/Hanger, Inc.; and Neuronetics, Inc.; (b) government bodies such as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; National Institutes of Health; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality; Department of Defense; Veterans Health Administration; New York State Department of Health; New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; California Department of Health Services; County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services; San Diego County Health Department; and National Association of State Units on Aging; (c) non-profit organizations such as the American Public Health Association; American Medical Association; Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving; RAND Corporation; AcademyHealth; United Nations; UNICEF; March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation; United Way; Los Angeles Public Health Foundation; International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association; and the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR); and (d) multiple academic medical centers across the U.S. and abroad most notably in France, Italy, Spain and England.

Subsequent to serving as a Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator of many clinical and epidemiological research studies, Dr. Navaie has accumulated extensive experience managing clinical trials (Phases I-IV), observational studies, health services research and health economic studies. Her experience spans working with a wide range of populations (adults and children) and clinical conditions examining physical, psychological, and emotional health outcomes; disease-specific outcomes (metabolic, infectious diseases, oncology, orthopaedics and sports medicine, pain management, and palliative and hospice care); health-related quality of life; and health economics associated with service utilization patterns and costs of home and community-based services, managed care initiatives, long-term care, and chronic-disease management. She has authored more than 225 research publications including peer-review journal articles, book chapters, abstracts and technical reports, with wide application to research, program and policy stakeholders. Moreover, Dr. Navaie serves as a peer-reviewer for 12 prestigious health and policy journals.

Throughout her decorated tenure, Dr. Navaie has been the recipient of multiple leadership, scientific and research awards from prestigious organizations including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health, CDC, Associated Schools of Public Health, UCLA School of Public Health, UNC-CH School of Public Health, the North Carolina Governor’s Institute, Association for Health Services Research/Academy Health, American Public Health Association, Rosalynn Carter Institute, ISPOR, and the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. She has also been inducted as an esteemed member of Cambridge Who’s Who International registry of executives, professionals and entrepreneurs as well as Marquis Who’s Who in America. Dr. Navaie is an active member of more than 30 professional national and international organizations, serving at a leadership capacity on boards of directors, task forces and specialty committees. She is multi-lingual with fluency in French, Spanish, Farsi and English.

Dr. Navaie received her Doctor of Public Health degree with emphasis in maternal and child health, epidemiology, and health economics from the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also has a Master of Public Health degree in epidemiology as well as population and family health from the University of California Los Angeles. Additionally, Dr. Navaie has undergraduate degrees in biochemistry and French literature from the University of California San Diego. She also holds multiple advanced certificates in quantitative and qualitative research methodology from the Evaluator’s Institute and the American Evaluation Association; and Patient Safety, Risk Management, and Quality Improvement for Research Subject Protection from the Office for Human Research Protection, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
